Kang was in custody and could not immediately be reached for comment. Ikaika Kang, a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army, made an initial appearance Monday in federal court in Honolulu.

Shortly after that Kang allegedly told one of the undercover agents that he desired to "kill a bunch of people" with his rifle.

FBI spokesman Arnold Laanui said that SWAT team special agents arrested Ikaika Kang on Saturday. The FBI had previously been alerted about Kang's possible radicalization and obtained warrants to search Kang's belongings.

Kang also is accused of attempting to furnish ISIS with classified and other sensitive military records that would have assisted the group in its combat tactics.

The decorated combat veteran was arrested at his home in Waipahu on Saturday after pledging loyalty to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, officials say.

Kang's father, Clifford, told Hawaii News Now, "I'm just in shock". He wanted to provide them to the terrorist group, the affidavit claimed. He reportedly explained he didn't want to do anything suspicious on the internet because he was afraid the FBI "will show up at my door". The agent paid him $700 to split the cost. "In fighting this threat, the Honolulu Division of the FBI works with its law enforcement partners and the Joint Terrorism Task Force".

His clearance was reinstated a year later after he completed military requirements.

According to authorities, he allegedly wanted to kill a lot of people. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Honolulu. CBS affiliate KGMB reported Kang was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
