Trump to lunch with GOP senators and talk health care plan

Very early in his campaign for president, Trump promised that the Affordable Care Act would be repealed and replaced with "something terrific".

"I have said consistently that I support repeal and replace, and I'm not giving up on doing both of those things", Portman said.

"I think we're probably in that position where we're going to let Obamacare fail", Trump reportedly told journalists from the White House on Tuesday. 'We're not going to own it. I'm not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it'.

On Tuesday, it became clear that Senate Republicans didn't have the support they needed to pass their version of healthcare reform.

Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia are opposed to repeal.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., proposed the strategy after two Republican senators, Mike Lee of Utah and Jerry Moran of Kansas, defected from the GOP healthcare bill, effectively killing the Senate repeal and replace legislation.

White House Correspondent April Ryan revealed on CNN Wednesday that Republicans are in "meltdown" mode over the recent failure of the GOP healthcare bill known as Trumpcare. "You know, just take it away and don't fix it - like when your car gets a flat tire, you remove the tire, then cut the brake cables and push the car into a crowd of uninsured old people".

The final decision on whether the government will fund the CSR payments has yet to be made.

"I'm ready to act", Trump said.

"We're not messing around with the folks that are on Medicare", said Young. We can work together to stabilize the markets. His message about health care has changed in the last 24 hours. "We'll have to see what the way forward is. It may not be as quick as we had hoped, but it's going to happen". Republicans could only afford two defections in order to pass the bill using reconciliation, a special process that only requires a simple majority of senators to approve. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., "this is no time for high-fives".

All opposition Democrats and two leftwing independents had already pledged to fight the changes. We did so with the knowledge that this task would not be easy.
